SCHOOL NEWS...
Reminder: This Friday, November 20th, is a Non-Instructional Day. Students do NOT attend school.
Elementary Reporting: British Columbia has a redesigned curriculum which affords us an opportunity to think about how we assess and report on student progress. In Saanich, our goal is to continually improve and to ensure that families are well informed about their children’s progress. This year elementary students in Saanich will receive a report card that looks slightly different than in the past. Teachers in Saanich will be using MyEducation to create report cards. See the attached letter for all the details!
Cordova Bay Garden: It is time to put the garden to bed for the winter. Please collect and bring leaves to school for garden mulch. Once they are bagged, leaves can be tossed over the fence. Students will help to mulch the garden with them for the winter. If you have any large pieces of cardboard, we could use those as well. Please feel free to visit the garden after school hours and harvest some food for your families, or those in need. Thank you! Ms. Challinor
Reporting of Student Absences: A friendly reminder for families to ensure that you contact the school Safe Arrival Line at 250-658-4002 if your child will be absent from school. Please indicate your child’s first and last name and teacher. If you’re child will be away for more than one day, please ensure that you call of all the days that your child will be away. This is a huge help to the Safe Arrival Parent Volunteers. Thank you!
Wet Weather Preparedness: A reminder to parents/guardians to have their children dressed appropriately to go outside as most days children will go outdoors for their breaks. Rubber boots, waterproof jackets and rain pants are suggested especially if your child likes to play in/near the puddles! Please send in their backpacks a full change of clothes in case they need to change.

COMMUNITY NEWS….
Peninsula “1000 X 5” Children’s Book Recycling Project: This project operates through partnership with the Saanich School District. Since 2008, over 162,000 children’s picture books have been collected for redistribu-tion across the Saanich Peninsula. On average, 450 children receive books each month, year-round. If you can donate gently-used children’s picture books, please bring them to the drop-off box at the front of the school from November 16-19 during drop-off and pick-up times. The books will be forwarded to volunteers who will package them for distribution to young children and families on the Saanich Peninsula. See attached PDF for more details.
