SCHOOL NEWS...

Supporting Your Child at Home In Managing Emotions During COVID-19:  As a mom and a school Principal, I especially appreciated the reminder, in this article, that "children who are tantruming more than usual, being defiant or acting out may actually be feeling anxious."  Anxiety does masquerade as a wide variety of behaviours. In order to alleviate some of the anxieties manifested by our new home reality and COVID-related worries, my family has made an extra effort to carve out space and time for daily, joyful activities to boost everyone's happiness quotient. We take our minds off of the stream of concerns by getting outside for walks through the woods, baking special treats, having lunch picnics in the sun, cuddling and watching funny videos on youtube, sharing jokes of the day and holding impromptu dance parties! Sometimes, we just stop and take time to be still and have a mindful moment - my personal favourite. Bottom line - showing up each day with kindness for ourselves is the best starting point. We are all doing the best we can, in the time that we have, no matter where we are.

Stay strong everyone and reach out to your school team, if you are looking for support. Thinking of all of you and missing our community very much.  Mrs. ML Heron

Families Leaving Cordova Bay Elementary School:  If you have a child in Kindergarten to Grade 4 and your family will not be returning to Cordova Bay Elementary in September, could you please let Mrs. Heron (mheron@saanichschools.ca) or Ms. Meausette (cmeausette@saanichschools.ca) know asap for planning purposes.  Thank you!

Students Registered for Kindergarten for September 2020 Dear Families of the Kindergarten Class of 2020/21:  We are very excited that we will have new kindergarten children joining us in the Saanich School District! All Saanich elementary schools remain committed to welcoming and ensuring a smooth transition for your child into our Kindergarten program. Creating strong relationships with our families is important to our Saanich Schools, and we appreciate the importance of that initial connection during Kindergarten Orientation. With the current COVID-19 precautions, and the suspension of in-class instruction, our Kindergarten orientation activities have been postponed until closer to the start of the 2020/21 school year.   We will be reaching out to all Kindergarten families that have registered at Cordova Bay to confirm your registration soon.  Further information regarding orientation activities, gradual entry, helpful hints and start up information will be sent out prior to the start of your child’s Kindergarten year.  Kindest regards, Mrs. Mary Lynn Heron, Principal
