September 28th – Non-Instructional Day (students are not in session) – Staff of Saanich School District will be spending a day in our schools to engage in a digital presentation led by Jo-Anne Chrona, Curriculum Manager, First Nations Steering Committee. We are also joined by members of our District Indigenous Education team and Cordova Bay Indigenous Education teacher leads, to further our learning journey. Staff at Cordova Bay come to this day with an open heart and a willingness to learn something new, think about things in different ways, share ideas, reflect and challenge assumptions.

We very much look forward to sharing the learning from this day with our students. If you would like to learn more about the First Peoples Principles of Learning that guide our work, you will find them here: http://www.fnesc.ca/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/PUB-LFP-POSTER-Principles-of-Learning-First-Peoples-poster-11x17.pdf

Sept 30 has been declared Orange Shirt Day in recognition of the harm the residential school system did to children’s sense of self-esteem and well-being and as an affirmation of our commitment to ensure that everyone around us matters. Every Child Matters! Students at Cordova Bay are invited to wear an orange shirt or another orange clothing item (headband, scarves, etc.) as a symbol of support.
