Dear Parents and Guardians,
Wednesday, students and staff will be visibly supporting education and awareness of Truth and Reconciliation by wearing orange. Orange Shirt Day is a key part of our learning journey in understanding Canada’s tragic and shameful residential school history.
As per Superintendent Dave Eberwein's post today, the school district’s Indigenous Education department has identified some excellent learning resources in support of September 29th and 30th:
- Residential School History
- Origins and History of Orange Shirt Day
- National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation
- Residential School memorial map
Please do reach out to us at the school, if you have questions or are seeking further information. My staff and I spent an incredible day of learning together on Monday at our district-wide session on Reimagining Schools as Places of Healing - Truth and Reconciliation Through Education. As Kevin Lamoureux stated in his keynote address, educators have been given a gift to be part of the solutions through education and creating awareness. Cordova Bay staff are keen to walk this path of truth with our community.
