SCHOOL NEWS...

Lifetouch Photos:  Lifetouch Photo packages have been sent home.  Proofs or portrait payments are due back to the school TOMORROW Thursday, November 8th.  Retakes will be on Friday, November 16th from 9:00-10:30 am and children need to return their proofs should they wish to get a retake.

Choir:  For our November Remembrance Day assembly, choir students are asked to wear a white top and black pants or skirt.  Mrs. Heron understands how challenging it can be to buy clothes for children (she has two daughers!), so if a white shirt and black bottom is not possible, then something close would be just fine.  Assembly  begins at 10:00 am.

Coats for Kids (and Families):  We are collecting clean, gently used or new coats for kids (and families) until this Friday, November 9.  Please consider donating to this great cause to help keep Victoria families warm this season! Coats can be dropped off in the marked box in the reception area by the office.

School Garden:  Mrs. Organic will be gardening with our school again this year, thanks to our generous PAC and additional funding from Mrs. Organic and Mrs. Heron. Our first session will be Monday, November 19th. We are in desperate need of cardboard to keep the weeds down.  Please collect as much cardboard as you can and drop it inside the garden fence by the gate. If you know neighbours or friends who are expecting a new fridge or stove, etc. we would so appreciate that as well!  Thank you for your support.  Cathy Challinor

Bike Locks:  There are two bike locks on the fence in the under-covered area.  We would like to give potential owners a couple of days to remove them.  Next week, facilities will cut them off as they have become a safety concern.

Wet Weather Preparedness:  As we get more wet weather, families are asked to have their children dressed appropriately to go outside as most days children will go outdoors for their breaks.  Rubber boots, waterproof jackets and rain pants are suggested especially if your child likes to play in/near the puddles!  A full change of clothes in their backpacks is also helpful should they need to change.

COMMUNITY NEWS...

Halloween Candy Leftovers:  CB55+ has offered to prepare Christmas crackers again using leftover Halloween candy!  For those of you new to our school, members of 55+ will wrap the candy in toilet paper tubes to look like Christmas crackers and take them to a local food bank to be included in Christmas food hampers. If you have candy or toilet paper rolls to donate (they have lots of ribbon and wrapping paper), please take them to Mrs. Mitchell’s classroom for collection between now and Friday November 9.

November 23 PRO-D Options:

  • Jump Rope Workshop:  Friday, November 23, 9:30-4:00 at Royal Oak Middle School.  See below for more information.
  • Panorama Rec Centre:  See attached PDF for more information.

Basketball for Elementary Age Students:  Since Night League basketball really doesn't start until about Grade 5, SPABA (Saanich Peninsula Amateur Basketball Association) is trying to get younger kids involved, to stoke that fire and love of the game even earlier!  We are running a 1-hour session on Sunday, November 25th at North Saanich Middle school from 4pm-5pm.  We intend to keep it a small group - maximum of 20 kids - run by some of our current coaches as well as former local high school players so that each child gets some individual attention. Focus is on fitness and fun, with the first 40 minutes or so being skills and drills followed by a controlled scrimmage.  And as a promotion for this initial session, each child will get a T-shirt and their own basketball (to keep!). Cost will be $10 a child.  Please fee free to forward to any other families on the Peninsula who would ultimately feed into the SPABA Night League Basketball program. *Please wear athletic attire and indoor running shoes. For more information or to register, please email ERIC ROWE (SPABA Coaching Coordinator) at erowe12@yahoo.com.
