Parent Literacy Workshop
Dear Parents/Caregivers:
You are invited to a Cordova Bay literacy talk Wednesday March 6th, 7:00 pm in the Learning Commons. Dr. Orla Colgate, whose research area focuses on parental involvement in reading at home, will be talking to you on the following topics:
- Decoding - understanding the challenges children face and how families can offer support
- Motivation - why a child’s motivation to read is vital for their success and how families can help
Lisa Kinshella, who teaches Reading Recovery at Cordova Bay School and also works as an Instructional Support Teacher for Early Learning and Literacy in Saanich School District, will be talking to you about the following topics:
- The Importance of Play in the Early Years, (0 to 8 years of age) and why it is important for the development of oral language and emergent literacy.
